Remember the days when you got a trophy just for participation? You know, show up, drink water, bounce a ball and go home a winner? Well we may be long past those days but we recently got to work with a client who is dedicating their time to a program helping players from grades 6 to 12 hone their basketball skills and improve their overall game quality.

Next Level Basketball is a program that commits to helping athletes at both an amateur and aspiring post-secondary level to refine their skills, train smarter and practice at a similar intensity level as university teams. Coaches are mainly OUA players who bring a range of skills to athletes along with personal experience, making sessions invaluable to the up and coming.

When Next Level Basketball came to us they were looking for a logo to properly represent the passion of the game, which then grew into a brochure and web interface. A style was developed with bold lines and colours inspired by the spirit of sports and geared towards the athletes with big dreams. We wanted the depth and intensity of basketball to come across in all aspects of the designs. We hope you love them as much as we do!

You can check out more information about their summer basketball camp here : www.nextlevelhoops.ca

Lately with technology advancing so quickly, it seems as though there is always some new invention surfacing that makes us say, "why didn't we think of this sooner?" It's always easier to look back and understand the value of a new piece of technology after it has arrived and proven itself worthy but real innovation lies in the ability to look forward and figure out areas that are in need of an improved solution.

We have had the privilege of working with a client who has this exact style of forward thinking. The Barrie and Community Family Health Team has been working hard at implementing a new technology in the healthcare system: electronic patient records. With this new structure it allows doctors to know who the patient has been working with, exactly which treatments they have received, medication they are currently on and any other important bits of patient information that can often get lost or mistaken during the flurries of a medical emergency and paper trails. Innovation in any area that improves health and wellness? We love it. We feel any process that helps patients to receive accurate diagnosis, proper treatment and to regain their health quicker is a great idea.

Barrie Family Health Team originally got in touch with us to update their logo which gradually led to an array of other branding for their Liaison Team and REQIP (Research Education Quality Improvement Program). We have been careful to keep all of the pieces branded with the same family of consistent colours and maintained clean lines for easy understanding in the medical community. It has been a pleasure working with a group of individuals who have the future of healthcare in mind and we are excited for all of the changes and convenience they are hoping to bring to the community.

There is a certain someone that we have been meaning to blog about for a while but we wanted to make sure we had the time to pay proper tribute to her. If there was an award for the most engaging individual, we would have to give it to Marguerite Lalonde! We have met a lot of business owners in our day and we found Marguerite to be among one of the most hard working and dedicated. Not to mention her smile and positive energy is absolutely catching.

Marguerite approached us a few months ago with a proposition for a logo, business card and rack card. She was in the initial stages of venturing away from the clinic she had been working in to bring her services to the heart of Barrie and was in need of a new look that would be just as unique as she is. Proving that hard work really does pay off, we would like to congratulate her on becoming a new business owner and the recent opening of her new location downtown.

We had a lot of fun creating the look and feel of Marguerite's company and kept to the classic, clean and soothing tones that evoke the mood of Massage Therapy. We think we hit the mark, but you can check it out below for yourself! All that is left now is to sneak a sick day and head downtown Barrie for a rejuvenating massage. We'd be lying if we said we hadn't thought about it.

To check out Marguerites services and location visit: www.facebook.com/MLalondeRMT

Grab your water wings! On March 22nd, Toronto broke two temperature records for being the warmest March day ever recorded (26ºC), as well as the warmest March 22nd since 1945. The recent heat wave has left a lot of us craving those lazy days of summer filled with BBQ's, cottages and lounging by the pool.

Coincidentally, or right on time depending on how you look at it, we have just launched a brand new website for Poseidon Pool Service. While spending hours on end staring at pictures of alluring pools has left us a bit nostalgic for hot July weather, it does make us excited for the spring and summer preparations that are just around the corner. Poseidon offers services from opening your pool and preparing it for warm weather, to fixing any leaks or issues that may have sprung up over the winter months so you don't have to lift a finger.

They also happen to be a very ecologically green company, promoting solar heating and energy efficient products. This means you can feel pretty guilt free while indulging in some well deserved poolside relaxation. Sounds pretty good to us! Poseidon is also quite experienced with all issues you might come across in regards to your pool, so you can be comfortable knowing that the highest quality of service will always be provided.

For more information about Poseidon's services or just some general knowledge on how to reduce the ecological footprint of your pool check out www.poseidonpool.ca

Have you ever gotten so tired of top 40 radio stations that all you wanted to do is kick them in the shins and watch them fall into an imogen heap? Well oh land, then do we have some news for you! There's a new radiohead hitting the airwaves and it's turning up some hot hot heat!

When we first heard about Indie Toronto Radio Station we thought they were telling ghostorys. An indie station where you can escape from the broken social scene of overplayed pop songs? Yeah yeah yeahs, we'll believe it when we see it. Well, you better open those bright eyes of yours because it's here!

A little while ago our client, Central Ontario Broadcasting (Home of Rock 95 and KoolFm), let us in on a secret and asked us to lend a hand with a feisty little project they have been cooking up. The fun began with a logo filled with city and colour for their new Indie Toronto Radio Station. It then quickly evolved into a website and mother mother now we can barely contain our excitement! We urge you to check it out. But before all you mumford & sons get attached, we should warn you, this station will only reach the radio with your help. The station needs to acquire a license in order to move forward, and it is up to us young empires to sign the petition and make it happen. So let's spread the gossip and bring it to life! After all, it's going to be a fine frenzy, we promise!

Not sure if you like indie music? If you're still on the fence it's ok go check out some of the indie artists highlighted in this blog (if you can spot them). You might be surprised at the different genres that melt into indie music and we bet there's at least one artist that will make you see stars.

To read more about Indie Toronto and/or to sign the petition you can visit www.indietoronto.ca

We aren't sure how we would hold up under the ruthless and fiery brigade of CBC's Dragons Den but luckily one of our clients knew exactly how to stand their ground.

This week we would like to extend a warm and enthusiastic congratulations to one of our wonderful clients, Massage Addict for striking a red hot deal on Dragons Den! They pitched their idea on a recent January episode and after careful consideration, walked away with the opportunity of a lifetime. They appear in episode 13 of the newest season, if you are curious.

Having had the pleasure of working with Massage Addict for years, we were more than excited on the morning we heard the buzz of their win. Following their feat, they immediately got in touch, enlisting our help to create a Retractable Banner for display in an upcoming Toronto franchise trade show. We were more than happy to oblige and you can glimpse the results of our efforts below. We like to think they have earned some bragging rights.

We wish our client all the best with their new endeavours and we look forward to what the future has in store for Massage Addict.

Rock95 approached us a while back to help create a new brand campaign to generate a general awareness of Rock95. They came to us with a tagline and a clean slate, trusting we'd come up with appropriate imagery to compliment the text. With only a split second to capture and hold a viewers attention, we felt the emphasis should be on simple and clever.

After a nice long brief we set to work developing three original concepts all different but similar in theme. We presented the three concepts to the Rock95 Marketing Manager. He was so pleased that he approved a concept on the spot. The approved concept featured a business man ripping open his shirt to reveal his Rock95 graphic tee underneath. The graphic ran as a billboard ad all across the city and was also applied to bus graphics, newspaper ads and as auxiliary promotional materials such as stickers. The campaign was such a success that Rock95 ran it again the following year.

The designers were given full creative licence to come up with the appropriate imagery and the end result proved successful. The project followed all the design and creative steps from ideation, concept development to final product. As a result, Rock95 received a product that was eye catching, concise and had the legs to get multiple uses.

Recently, we had the pleasure of working with Kim Moffat from Ruff Haus who opened up a new dog facility offering daycare, grooming and training. Kim approached us looking to develop a brand identity that would set the mood for the facility and follow through on to her business cards, literature and website.

During our initial client meeting, she told us they were adamant that the logo and brand identity look high-end but not pretentious. They wanted a simple and clean design with a clever concept.

After reviewing our meeting information, some extensive research and a number of concept sketches, they were presented with three different concepts. They were immediately drawn to the first design. The concept utilizes the companies initials to suggest a dog bone. The 'H' was given thick serifs to help complete the 'R' and to suggest the shape of the bone. The fonts solid stroke weight and height complimented the icons vertical proportions.

After minor tweaks and the application of their branded colours, they were presented with the final product and were extremely happy with the end result of their logo. Applying their logo and brand identity to business cards, stationery, signage and a content managable website was a rewarding project because it all came together so strong and visual.

The end result was a new business with a unique and original brand identity that will not be mistaken for any of their competition.

Rock 95 took their annual Birthday Bash to a whole new level! They teamed up with Pratt Homes and created a campaign to give away a home at the Bash as the grand prize! A congratulations go out to all the winners of the night, especially to Mike Turney and his wife Karla who walked away as new condo owners.

This year's bash design was quite simple. We wanted to let everyone know they were giving away a home and if that didn't turn heads…. what would? So we used simple, easy to manipulate imagery and applied it to bench ads, bus ads and billboards throughout the city along with newspaper ads, website graphics and outdoor large-format banners that hung directly to the condo bricks. We are sure if you were in the Barrie area, you know exactly what we are referring to, as it was everywhere!

As usual, it's been a pleasure working with Rock 95 and we are looking forward to the next Birthday Bash to see what Rock 95 has in store!!!

When Nikki Glahn approached ICONIC design with her vision, we thought she was one of the most ambitious and focused clients we had ever met. To develop a line of products that teach children basic lifelong lessons on love, friendship and caring through interactive products; products that will engage the family in conversations that might not naturally occur in their daily, hectic lives, but plays an important role in raising well-balanced, empathetic children.

The first project that Nikki wanted to launch was an Advent calendar that counted the days to Christmas morning with fun and interactive events and games, as opposed to your standard chocolate treat. Something that will give the family a different type of fun, and an opportunity to spend quality family time over the holidays. When children are experiencing the excitement of receiving gifts, they are also reminded of the amazing feelings of GIVING gifts too.

ICONIC worked with Nikki on developing her logo, and business cards and letterhead in order to help her launch her business. From there we began the design of the advent calendar. We designed a mini-calendar for initial product awareness and the large final calendar piece that Nikki is selling through word-of-mouth and online advertising. Nikki's website was then developed with extensive custom programming that allowed her to give password access to people who bought the calendar.

Christmas is coming up again and Nikki is selling her creative Advent Calendar online again. If anyone is looking for that holiday experience to share with children and families that you know… this is the answer! Be sure to order your calendar in time to have delivered to you by December 1st!
